The ultimate goal was to erase their memories, so Voldemort and the Death Eaters wouldn’t be able to target them to get to Hermione. This was in order to protect them during the Wizarding War. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 was released on November 19th, 2010. 1) What year was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) released in theatres? This provides some extra context on the questions that you got wrong. We'll continue to keep an eye on the box office and will let you know if it breaks any more big records. Here are some more details on the answers (but only read AFTER you have taken the quiz). In the end, I'm just glad that it's not Twilight topping the charts anymore, because this is a franchise I love as much as everyone else. The only other interesting stat is this: "As for the expensive 3D conversion, well, that didn't really seem to help, with only 43 percent of the revenue being generated by premium 3D ticket sales in the US and Canada." Indeed, as expect, fans are choosing 2D over 3D more often, even though I saw Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 3D and it wasn't so bad (but wasn't so great either). We're in the thick of the summer and have big hitters coming up the next few weeks, like Captain America, Cowboys & Aliens, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, to name a few. I think this will have some strong legs and a lot of fan support worldwide, but considering I'm not the only one with gripes about the film, I'm just not sure it'll carry that long. Some are now predicting that DH:Part 2 could go on to rival the chart-topping worldwide earnings of Titanic ($1.8B) or Avatar ($2.7B), but I'm not so sure about that. So far it's also made around $307 million internationally, pushing this up to a global total of $476 million in earnings in just the opening weekend alone. From D'Alessandro on indieWireĭeathly Hallows: Part 2 opened on July 15th in 4,375 theaters in the US. It broke the midnight record for a domestic bow with $43.5 million (former champ The Twilight Saga: Eclipse at $30 million), the single stateside opening day with $92.1 million (besting Twilight Saga: New Moon’s $72.7 million), the biggest IMAX bow with $15.5 million (beating Alice in Wonderland's $12 million) and the largest three-day haul for a Harry Potter film, out-pegging last November’s Deathly Hallows: Part 1's $125 million weekend. As of last Wednesday, I'd received an email from Fandango stating that "Fandango has sold more tickets for Part 2 than it has sold for any other movie this year" and that 5000 shows were sold out already. That said, it's great to hear that it's performing extremely well, as this is very good news for Warner Bros and it just shows that fans can still drive movies to huge success. I fully expected Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the end of all things, to break some major records, just because it is the end of an era for many people and the last time there was a conclusion this epic was Return of the King - and we all know what happened to that. Deathly Hallows: Part 2, as expected with record breaking theater counts, also earned the most money at midnight out of any release at $43.5M. The previous total set by TDK was $158.4M back in 2008 ( full chart), but WB is again going to smash through both of these records next year when The Dark Knight Rises hits on July 20th, 2012, I'm pretty sure of that. It has been confirmed by THR/ indieWIRE that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has broken the highest opening weekend record set by The Dark Knight with a total of $168.55 million this weekend. Another record breaking weekend for Warner Bros.
